13th Week in Japan - 21 Weeks

Last week before transfers:o

Herro! (Japanese hello:p)

How is everyone doing this fine week!? We have been having lots of fun! This week our investigators weren't progressing very much at all, or couldnt meet with us, so we did a lot of finding. We found 2 families! The Ando family and the Young family. In japan everyone has their family kanji in front of their door or on their house somewhere. So when we were housing we were in a super duper rich area and found a completely American looking house. When we rode past it, their name plate said the Young family and the plate was a horse drawn wagon. So I really wanted to ping the house and find out that they were distant relatives of Brigham Young. Mecham Choro on the other hand, did not. He doesnt like to ping gaijing (foreigners) house because things get really akward in english. But I insisted. So we pinged it, and the family is a half family. The dad is american, the mom japanese, and they all speak Japanese and English. It was really different talking in english but it was a good experience. They said we could come back:) The other family, when we pinged them, the wife said she would come to the gen kan (the inside patio where everyone puts their shoes) which is like every missionaries dream:p So she came opened the door wide open for us and talked to us for 20 min. She had friends in college who were LDS and had been visited by the missionaries. She was very interested in learning about the church. We will also go back and teach them.

This week Elder Christofferson is coming! Wednesday we will go to Atsubestu church, near where the temple is being built and hear him speak! This will be the 4th apostle that I will have seen slash heard from in the 6 months I have been a missionary:) And this is also the last week I will have with my trainer, Elder Mecham. The 3rd of June is when we will get the transfer calls, but I will most likely be staying in Moiwa and I will also probably get a Nihonjin (Japanese) companion.

Yesterday, we had a big dinner given to us again by the Nagano family. We had a Jingusu Kan (mutton) party! We literally grilled food for like 2 hours and it was way good! Plus I got to try horumon (intestine) and it was way good!....just a little chewy:) After the grilling we went inside and we tried to teach everyone a quick lesson. (This family wanted me to speak in english so I did all of this in english.)  Mecham choro asked all of them what they thought if families could be together forever. The response was that they like how our church focuses on families and how we werent trying to force the bible on them or other stuff that is popular for other religions to do here. Then I testified in english how the Gospel has blessed us with the opportunity to be together forever and that I would see my grandpa again. When I started testifying the little kids were being a bit noisy and playful, but the farther into the lesson we got, it suddenly got silent, and the Holy Ghost filled the room. It was way cool. And Shingo san, the son to the Nagano "older couple" started to tear up.  He asked what our purpose was. And I told him that our purpose was to help families like his, to be able to become strong and to have eternal life after we leave this life. He was very happy and said that he believed that there were a lot of false religions, but he believed that ours may be right. He wants us to teach his family the gospel. And it was a real miracle considering he only knows a little bit of english and the rest of the family doesnt. So that was a huge miracle.

I love you all and keep in touch with me! Send me pictures!(Pretty please)
P.S. We hiked a mountain last P Day and yeah you get it:)

12th Week in Japan - 20 Weeks

She got baptized! Way kool! Nobuko Kawashima was baptized this weekend by Elder Mecham! So that made us super happy! She took all the lessons in one month after being an eternal investigator for a long long time. She really changed through the atonement which was the coolest part. Tomita san is progressing! She said that she would keep God's commandments and read the Book of Mormon cover to cover! She really wants her family to be strong and happy like American families are "you guys." So if you want to talk to her write me an email for her and I will do my best to translate it! Our newest investigator family, The Nagano family, invited us for sushi last week and we went last night and they have a huge loving family who all speak pretty good english! They really like us and want to hang out with us, learn english, and about the gospel. We met the "grandma" first and then her husband. Yesterday we met the kids and grandkids. They are so nice and they all need to get baptized...(: Oh and we also made friends with at Half japanese half french lady who is a model....we will definitely pass her to the sister missionaries....but she is really cool and would love to hear about the plan of salvation. So that is what is going on with the work as of right now.

I am so glad I was able to talk to all of you! It seems like it was a month ago because of how busy it has been. I am also very glad you said to get the rain suit cause it rained solid for two days. I know the rain suit is a little colorful but it works and Nihonjin think it is kool:) Katie and Kara seem to be having a fun time dressing as disney characters:) Frozen is way popular in Japan. They have it translated all into Japanese. And they play the music everywhere. On the radio, shops, the mall, everywhere. I am doing all right. Still struggling with the language but thats ok. I learned that getting angry on the mission doesnt help you or the investigators. So be happy and the spirit can use you to teach others. In my next package if possible, could you send me candy and a little bit of mexican food stuff. Any american candy is ok and for the food, tortillas, refried beans, whatever you can send. I can buy white shirts here if I need to. So if you cant find any let me know next week! Tell Sister Kenney thanks for the letters! And here are some pictures of Kawashima Shimai, The Nagano family and yeah.

11th Week in Japan - 19 Weeks

Hello Long time no talk:p

So I forgot to tell you on the phone...I ran into a tree this week while I was biking:) I had dinner in one hand and the handle bar in the other and I hit a bump, lost control and went straight into a tree. Hit my temple on my head (luckily the helmet took most of the blow) and I landed and skid on my left hand:) Luckily I was ok I just always need to ride with 2 hands. Well kinda short this week but I have lots of high resolution pictures that I can only send in one email at a time so yupp!

This is Sister Oda's house. She is the short lady in the middle standing up. I dont know her exact address but if you send me the letter or whatever you want to send her I can get it to her. Or if you ask Mecham Choro's mom you can get it.

This is our new investigators house. They are super rich. This is a huge yard for a japanese house.

10th Week in Japan - 18 Weeks

10th Week In Japan

Date: May 05, 2014
Area:
Companion: Elder Mecham

All of the cherry blossoms are blooming and it is beautiful.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun and learned a lot. John Bytheway is way good. This week is looking good! We have a baptismal date for the 17th and we found a really kool family! So we will see what happens. This week was a holiday called shogatsu i believe. So dendo was a little more rough but that was ok. Investigators who have close baptismal dates take a lot of time. I had nepal curry for the first time! It is so good! You use these really big things of bread and dip it in the curry and you are in heaven. I also got a suit for $11.74 in american money! So it was a steal! And today i found a place where we can get cheap rain pants so ill be heading there today. All of the cherry blossoms are blooming and it is beautiful. We dont have to wear jackets all the time now and it is nice:) The language is still a little slow but its coming. Spiritually I am growing still. The gospel principles book is really amazing! So many hidden treasures! And I really cant wait till the general conference liahona comes to us!

Love yall! Sorry gotta go! Love you all and send pictures!
